Harpist Bridget Kibbey
on melding the folkloric and classical worlds in her new album Crossing the Ocean
In today’s Sound Off I had the most delightful conversation with harpist Bridget Kibbey, who’s been described as “the Yo-Yo Ma of the harp” by Vogue. Her new album Crossing the Ocean is out tomorrow (10/13) on the wonderful label Pentatone.
I am so in love with what she’s done in this recording. Kibbey commissioned contemporary composers who span the globe to write music for the harp resulting a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of sounds that meld the classical to folkloric traditions. Go forth and listen, subscribe, share and review, dears!
